Marin Assault Suspect Arrested

An officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries for which he was treated and released from a local hospital, police said.

SAN RAFAEL, CA — A wanted suspect sought in connection with an alleged assault on an officer was arrested Monday, San Rafael police said.

James Henry Flournoy, 44 of Oakland, was arrested in San Pablo and will face extradition to Marin on charges of assault with a deadly weapon against an officer, obstructing an officer, and possession of a stolen vehicle, police said.

Flournoy was sought in connection with a Dec. 8 case in which he’s accused of intentionally ramming a suspected stolen vehicle into an officer, police said.

The officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries for which he was treated and released from a local hospital, police said.

The vehicle was reported stolen at around 4:45 p.m. Dec. 8 from the Francisco Boulevard West Mercedes dealership, police said.

Witnesses reported seeing the suspect walk into the service garage and steal a customer’s 2021 black Mercedes SUV, police said.

The vehicle’s owner at around 10:15 p.m. reported locating the vehicle traveling in the Canal Neighborhood of San Rafael through a GPS application, police said.

A pursuit ensued, and officers recovered the vehicle but were unable to locate the suspect, police said.

Marin County’s Special Investigations Unit and Auto Theft Task Force helped police identify Flournoy as the suspect.

Once identified, authorities obtained a warrant for Flournoy's arrest.

San Pablo police located Flournoy during a vehicle theft investigation.

"The San Rafael Police Department wishes to express our appreciation to our community for their ongoing support of the injured officer who continues to recover," the agency said in a statement.

"We also wanted to extend our appreciation to our law enforcement partners for their assistance in locating and arresting Flournoy."
