Tamalpais High Readies For Baseball Opener

MILL VALLEY, CA — Tamalpais High is coming off a season for the ages, and the Red-tailed Hawks hope to duplicate their success despite heavy graduation losses.

The defending Marin County Athletic League champions open regular season play on the road Friday against Maria Carrillo of Santa Rosa at 3:30 p.m.

Tamalpais was 19-1 and 10-0 in MCAL play last season with a team that featured 13 seniors.

The Red-tailed Hawks were led last season by two-way standout Tucker Bougie.

Bougie (6-0 0.43 ERA) struck out 54 in 32 1/3 innings pitched and hit.472 with four homers on his to earning multiple honors including the MCAL Player of the Year, West Coast Preps’ Bay Area Pitcher of the Year and CalHi Sports’ Medium Schools State Player of the Year.

Bougie, who is now at UC Berkeley, was rated as the Pac-12 Conference’s No. 15 impact freshman by D1Baseball.

First baseman/catcher Matteo Bellisimo, outfielder Jake Moore, and pitcher Harley Eschliman (all seniors) and junior pitcher Tyler Buxton are among the team’s key returnees.

Bellisimo hit .333 (21 for 63) with 10 extra-base hits including four home runs and a team-leading 27 RBI, and Moore batted .375 (21 for 69) with 16 RBI last season and

Buxton (2-0) struck out three and walked none in three shutout innings in which he gave up one hit last season.

Eschliman (1-0) gave up five runs (two earned) on four hits and seven walks in 9 1/3 innings.
