Woman Killed After Tesla Plunges Into Marin Pool

The homeowner described hearing a "loud boom" sound from the crash in an interview with KTVU news.

SAN RAFAEL, CA — A motorist was killed Saturday morning after her Tesla veered off Point San Pedro Road in San Rafael, crashing into a pool, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

The woman was heading west on Point San Pedro around 7 a.m. Saturday when her vehicle left the roadway and ran into the pool outside a residence, said CHP Officer Darrel Horner.

The woman was identified as a 75-year-old from San Rafael, the Horner said.

According to Horner, the woman wasn't wearing a seat belt.

San Rafael Police and San Rafael Fire Department were first to arrive on the scene, and the driver was pronounced dead, Horner said.

The homeowner described hearing a "loud boom" sound from the crash in an interview with KTVU news.

Nobody else was injured in the crash.

"I hear a loud boom and like water," Barbara Kuffner told the outlet.

"I thought it was like thunder and lightning and rain and I saw flashing lights in the backyard, in the pool."

The cause of the collision is still under investigation, according to the CHP.

No additional information was immediately available.
