MONROVIA, CA — A young family of bears was captured on video this week visiting a Southern California home.

Rick Martinez recorded an adult bear and two cubs when the trio stopped by the Monrovia residence Monday around noon.

“Cuteness overload,” Martinez wrote in an Instagram post accompanying the videos. “New bear family in town and they also (are) the smallest cubs we've ever seen 🥰. Aww, we hope to watch them grow happy and healthy 😊.”

In the first video, the bear and cubs stroll into the yard, the adult takes a dip in the pool and the curious cubs watch from the edge, scampering away when the adult shakes off water. Other videos show the family exploring the patio and the cubs practicing tree climbing and wandering the yard.

There are estimated to be roughly 30,000 bears in California, according to the U.S. Forest Service. They are all black bears, although the species can have fur that is blonde, brown or black.

The bears typically avoid confrontation with humans, but, if given access to human food or garbage, they can lose caution, cause damage and become a threat, so it is important never to feed a bear, the agency said.
