Hello Monrovians,

Find out what's happening in Monroviawith free, real-time updates from Patch.

On Thursday afternoon, I was able to join staff for a tour of Canyon Park to observe damage from Tuesday's rain storm. It is quite incredible to see the power of water and how it impacted our beloved park. There is mud and debris everywhere. Sections of roadway are gone and culverts are filled in. The stream has cut new paths throughout the park and in some areas, 6-12 feet of earth has been eroded away. There are rocks of all sizes, some as large as minivans, scattered throughout the park. We are already preparing our work to: clear out debris; remove silt, sediment and rock from the park, and; begin to repair the damaged infrastructure. Our work will take a long time so we should all expect the park to be closed indefinitely for a period of time. We are preparing photos, aerial footage, and much more information to share with you. Be sure to sign up for the City Manager's Update to stay informed. We could not complete this work without the support of our the community, our Park Naturalists, Trail Crew,  and Volunteers.

As a reminder, Enhanced Street Dining in the 400 Block of Myrtle Avenue will end after today. The Monrovia Old Town Advisory Board has been reviewing the program and receiving feedback from merchants on the block. With the evenings getting cooler and limited restrictions on indoor dining, the street space is being used less. This does not impact the Temporary Outdoor Business Occupancy Permits (TOBO’s) which allow expanded outdoor dining in the sidewalk, parking areas, alleyways, etc. The TOBO’s will be evaluated in January 2022.

Holiday Safety Tips from Neighborhood & Business Services

Don’t be a Grinch! Help your neighbors and community!

In this episode of holiday tips by Neighborhood & Business Services, we would like to promote being a Good Neighbor! The City of Monrovia is filled with amazing people who care about the community. It is important to support and respect each other. This week, we would like to promote being a Good Neighbor by:

  • Providing gifts to your neighbors
  • Checking in to make sure they are doing well
  • Communicating with each other - when away on vacation to help take trash cans in
  • Keeping an eye on mailboxes - the Grinch is out there trying to steal mail, personal information, and packages. If you see suspicious activity, call Monrovia Police 626-256-8000
  • Getting involved with the Monrovia Area Partnership (MAP) and attending community events. Check out the Monrovia Reads Van that helps provide easier access to books
