MONROVIA, CA — Now that Christmas is over, some Monrovia residents might be wondering what to do with the tree in their living room taking up space.

The city will recycle unwanted Christmas trees for free now until Jan. 14.

Residents can have their trees collected for recycling by placing them on the curb during their street's trash day. Christmas trees must be free of any tinsel, ornaments, lights and stands, city officials said.

The collected trees will be ground into mulch.

Fake trees and trees covered in a fire retardant are not recyclable. Residents can make a bulky item pick-up appointment with Athens Services for un-recyclable trees, according to city officials.
