Monrovia Canyon Park Closes As City Readies For Rainy Weather

Although Thursday's rain was paltry, Monrovia officials except a more powerful storm to hit the area starting Monday.

MONROVIA, CA — Heavy rain will reach the Southland on Monday, and Monrovia officials are getting ready for the wet weather.

The Southland will see up to five inches of rain on Monday, according to the National Weather Service. The storm system should pass after Tuesday.

City officials announced the temporary closure of Monrovia Canyon Park following Thursday's drizzle, saying it will reopen when the weather permits.

Monrovia Fire and Rescue will patrol areas of the city burned in the Bobcat Fire, although officials said they don't expect any debris flows to happen.

"Should a debris and mudflow potential forecast be issued, Monrovia Public Works will coordinate with L.A. County and share the information as it becomes available," city officials said.

Residents worried about potential flooding around their homes can pick up free bags of gravel from Recreation Park.

The bags and gravel are free, but residents must fill the bags themselves, officials said.
