Monrovia Finalist For Most Business-Friendly City In LA County

This is the third year in a row Monrovia was named a finalist for the LA County Economic Development Corporation's Eddy Awards.

MONROVIA, CA — Monrovia was named as one of five finalists for the annual Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation’s (LAEDC) Eddy Awards for the third year in a row, the City announced last week.

Monrovia was nominated as a finalist for jurisdictions with a population of under 50,000 people, along with Duarte, La Mirada, San Gabriel and Santa Fe Springs, the press release said. Finalists for the "population of 50,000 people and over" category include the cities of Bellflower, Gardena, Lancaster, Norwalk, Pasadena and Rosemead.

"Business-friendly programs and services are a critical factor in job-creation," said the LAEDC.

According to LAEDC, the finalists were selected through independent review by a panel of blue ribbon judges, based on the following criteria:

  • Demonstrated priority commitment to economic development and quality jobs
  • Excellence in programs and services designed to facilitate business entry, expansion, and retention
  • Competitive business tax rates and fee structures
  • Availability of economic incentives
  • Effective communication with and about business clients

The Eddy Awards, which were introduced in 1996, recognized leadership in economic development in business, education and government throughout L.A. County, the press release said. The awards support fulfillment of the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation’s mission to "advance opportunity and prosperity for all," the press release said.

The winner of the Most Business Friendly City award will be announced at an awards gala, held on November 7 at the JW Marriot at LA Live.
