Monrovia's 'Bird Box' House Becomes Tourist Attraction

The house where Sandra Bullock seeks refuge in the hit film "Bird Box" is located in Monrovia, and fans are flocking to see it.

LOS ANGELES, CA — The latest ingenue to take Hollywood by storm is a Monrovia residence. Literally, it’s a house. Specifically, it’s the home used in the hit Netflix movie "Bird Box."

The Sandra Bullock movie released last month has been setting records for Netflix and inspiring a dangerous trend with fans emulating the film’s plotline by attempting various stunts and everyday tasks while blindfolded. Fortunately, other fans are taking a more sensible approach: a modest pilgrimage to the home where Bullock’s character seeks refuge.

Everyday since the film’s release Dec. 13, fans have shown up to the home to take pictures. The home’s owner, who hasn’t seen the film, told TMZ she was paid $12,000 to let filmmakers use shots of her home’s exterior.

In the film, Bullock plays a woman who must flee an evil force with her children while blindfolded. According to Netflix, 45 million people had viewed the movie in the first seven days after its release. The film inspired countless memes as well as the viral trend known as the "Bird Box” challenge. This week YouTube removed a number of videos posted as part of the challenge. Netflix issued a statement, asking fans not to hurt themselves.

“Can’t believe I have to say this, but: PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE,” the company tweeted.

But Angelenos don't have to risk their lives to get in on the "Bird Box” craze. The owner of the home used in the film told TMZ, she doesn't mind the "Bird Box" photo-seekers.
