Rent Remains Expensive in Monrovia

Monrovia's rent increased by 3.1 percent in 2016, according to a study by RentCafe

MONROVIA, CA -- Monrovia remains one of the most expensive places to live for renters with an increase in rent compared to 2015, according to RentCafe.

According to its report, published last week, Monrovia's rent increased by 3.1 percent in 2016. The increase is lower than the increase in the city of Los Angeles, which increased by 5.7 percent.

The average rent in Monrovia is $1,909, making it the 14th highest rental market in the county. Santa Monica tops the list at $3,256.

More and more people are moving to the suburbs, keeping the rent increases in check in Los Angeles proper, according to RentCafe.

"And the fact that most of the LA area cities are getting more and more popular suggests that the relatively sluggish rent growth in the main city is here to stay for a while, and even a slight relapse no longer seems far-fetched," RentCafe's Balazs Szekely said.

The rental prices are calculated by the actual rents in multi-family buildings with 50 or more units.
