Weight Loss Programs

Dr. Christopher Henderson, ND, L.Ac. offers varied and affordable options for weight-loss here in Napa.

  1. Diet and Nutrition: Proper diet will always be the core of any successful weight loss program. Whether, it be the Mediterranean Diet, Paleo Diet, or Metabolic Diet proper nutrient balance and caloric intake is crucial for success.
  2. Insulin Resistance: Insulin is a metabolic storage hormone that is produced by the pancreas in response to increased blood glucose. Tissue insulin receptors can become insensitive to insulin binding which causes increased blood insulin and glucose. Because insulin is a storage hormone, high insulin also increases storage of free fatty acids into fat tissue, leading to increased weight gain.
  3. Hormone Balancing: Hormones can play a major role in weight gain and difficulty losing weight. The Progesterone to Estradiol ratio (P/E ratio) indicates whether you are estrogen dominant and thus prone to hold onto fat. Testosterone and DHEA are androgens which can also impact weight gain.
  4. Mitochondrial support: The mitochondria is our cell’s energy factory (or ‘powerhouse’). It’s the job of the mitochondria to produce cellular energy in the form of ATP (adenosine triphosphate). They do this by burning fatty acids (fat). We know that certain nutrients and enzymes play a huge role in mitochondrial function and, more recently, that genetic variability affects the mitochondria.
  5. Metabolic Typing (MT): Based upon years of research and population studies showing that there are four metabolic types: Fast Oxidizer, Slower Oxidizer, Sympathetic and Parasympathetic. A 100 question Metabolic Type test is done online to determine your type and appropriate diet.
  6. Human Chorionic Gonadotripin (HCG) Peptide: HCG is a peptide produced in large amount by pregnant uteruses which helps reduce appetite and supports the increased burning of fat stores. The HCG diet includes ad very low calorie diet of 500 calories which some people cannot tolerate. But, people have been very successful on this diet with rapid weight loss. It is injected subcutaneously daily.
  7. AOD9604 Peptide: A segment of the human growth hormone which promotes the burning of fat stores. It is injected subcutaneously daily.
  8. Semaglutide (Glucagon-like Peptide 1): Semaglutide is a Glucagon-Like-Peptide-1 (GLP-1) agonist. It mimics the action of GLP-1, a peptide known to lower blood sugar levels and enhance insulin secretion. Research shows that Semaglutide may also improve heart, liver, and lung function while helping to slow or prevent the effects of Alzheimer’s disease. Semaglutide has been shown to significantly decrease appetite by delaying gastric emptying and reducing intestinal motility. Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 (GLP-1) Analog Shown to Stimulate Insulin and Suppress Glucagon Secretion in a Glucose-Dependent manner. The main way Semaglutide helps treat obesity is through its action in the brain. It is injected once weekly subcutaneously.:
