Man Found Dead On Corona Del Mar Beach: Police

Newport Beach police responded to the beach early Saturday morning after receiving a call about a body found in the sand.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — A man was found dead on Corona Del Mar Main Beach on Saturday morning, authorities said.

Newport Beach police responded to the beach shortly before 5:40 a.m. after receiving a call about a body found in the sand. Authorities located the man, who police said died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The gun was also located, according to police.

Authorities did not release the man's name but identified him as a 64-year-old Orange County resident. Police called the shooting an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the community.
