12.31.2021 Message from Marin County Public Health
December 31, 2021
Dear Marin County School Community:
Find out what's happening in Novatowith free, real-time updates from Patch.
For nearly two years, Marin County Public Health, Marin County Office of Education (MCOE), district and school leaders and staff have successfully partnered to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission in our schools. With the Omicron variant circulating, we are fortifying mitigation strategies to ensure the safest possible return to school and to support the health and well- being of Marin students.
COVID-19 Testing
Marin County Public Health recommends that all students and staff test for COVID-19 one day before returning to school. In partnership with California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and MCOE, test kits were distributed to all Marin students and staff prior to the holiday break. Follow Post-Holiday Return to School Home Testing instructions below:

Get Vaccinated
Vaccination is the best way to protect yourself and our community against Omicron. Marin County Public Health urges everyone 5 years and older to get vaccinated. Visit https://coronavirus.marinhhs.org/vaccinefinder to find available vaccine clinics.
Get Boosted
Marin County Public Health strongly recommends that everyone who is eligible for a COVID-19 booster receive one as soon as possible. A booster dose significantly reduces risk of infection and illness with Omicron. In partnership with Safeway, several thousand additional booster appointments have been recently opened through January at the Northgate Mall. Prevention
- For Marin County schools 10 days of isolation remains the standard for students and staff who test positive for COVID-19. As we return from the holidays, our school Isolation and Quarantine guidance has not changed despite new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance for the general CDPH has not yet updated school-specific Isolation and Quarantine guidance. We will re-evaluate our policy when CDPH School Guidance is updated.
- Celebrate the New Year safely. Do not gather in large groups
- Stay home when sick and get tested – https://coronavirus.marinhhs.org/testing
- Limit travel and gatherings and get tested 5 days after participating in a high-risk activity, including any New Year’s event (or sooner if you have any symptoms).
- Encourage family and friends to get vaccinated and boosted – https://coronavirus.marinhhs.org/vaccinefinder
- Wear well-fitted masks and wash your hands
Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership. By working together, we can ensure that our schools are safe and supportive environments for in- person learning.
