NOVATO, CA — The Novato Unified School District later this month will hold a virtual forum address community concerns about a new educational program.

The Jan. 18 meeting will include a presentation from the district’s partner, Marzano Research on proficiency-based education, which is also known as mastery-based learning or competency-based learning.

“Proficiency-Based Education (PBE) is a system of instruction, assessment, grading, and academic reporting that makes learning goals and expectations clear and easily understood by teachers, students, and families. This transparency ensures that all students and their families have a roadmap for success,” the NUSD wrote on its website.
