Brush Fire Burns Nearly 200 Acres On Camp Pendleton

"The fire is still actively burning with crews still committed," Staff Sgt. Kathryn​ Lynch told Patch.

CAMP PENDLETON, CA — Crews on Wednesday continued to work to contain a brush fire on Camp Pendleton, authorities said.

As of Tuesday evening, the fire had burned 196 acres and was 70% contained, Staff Sgt. Kathryn Lynch told Patch Wednesday.

"The fire is still actively burning with crews still committed," Lynch said. "No structure or life threat at this time."

The blaze, called the Papa Fire, sparked Tuesday afternoon in the Papa 3 Training Area of the military base. The fire sent smoke across North County.

North County Fire Protection District issued a smoke advisory Tuesday for the district, which serves the nearby communities of Fallbrook, Bonsall and Rainbow. Although smoke was visible in the area, there was no threat to the district.
