Officer, Another Driver Injured In 2-Vehicle Crash In Oceanside

The driver of a Toyota Corolla crashed into the front of a police vehicle after running a red light at an intersection, police said.

OCEANSIDE, CA — An Oceanside police officer and another driver were injured Tuesday in a two-vehicle crash, authorities said.

The crash happened shortly before 9:15 a.m. at the intersection of Mission Avenue and Roymar Road in Oceanside, according to the Oceanside Police Department. The driver of a Toyota Corolla crashed into the front of an Oceanside police vehicle after running a red light at the intersection.

"The driver of that vehicle drove around other stopped vehicles and into the bicycle lane and proceeded through the intersection against that solid red light without slowing or stopping," police said in a news release.

The driver of the Corolla, a 60-year-old Oceanside resident, was taken to Scripps La Jolla with moderate injuries, according to the department. The officer was treated for minor injuries and released from Tri-City Medical Center.

It was unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision, police said.
