📰 Here are the top stories today in Orange County:

  1. Fatal Irving shooting update: Authorities arrested a third suspect in the car-to-car shooting of a 19-year-old Irvine man. Believed to have been the driver, the latest arrest involves a 20-year-old woman from Lake Elsinore. There is a court hearing scheduled in Santa Ana. (The Orange County Register/paywall)
  2. The Orange County Fire Authority battled a brush fire near Santiago Peak, “which lies between Rancho Santa Margarita and Temescal Valley in Riverside County.” Burning downhill on three sides, firefighters kept a wary eye on the flames. However, by Tuesday morning, the fire was 50 percent contained, and nobody was hurt. (Patch)
  3. Seal Beach surfers want to end hydrofoil surfing around the jetty. Unlike traditional boards, foilboards have sharp edges, go very fast, and are somewhat unpredictable. Now, the Sea Beach Boardriders call for a ban, stating they worry about “a fatal accident due to lack of skill/control.” The group is collecting signatures. (Surfer)
  4. Irvine is the most pet-friendly city in the OC. Factoring in area walkability, pet businesses, and cost of pet care, experts crunched the numbers and compared 100 cities. Irvine comes in at No. 33. Ahead of it are San Diego (No. 24) and Sacramento (No.14). First overall is Scottsdale, Arizona. In last place is Baltimore, Maryland. Close to last is Santa Ana in No. 98. (WalletHub)
  5. The Outlets at Orange are planning a back-to-school event on Saturday. You can get a free backpack for bringing in “gently worn clothing” between 1 and 3 p.m. “There will also be school supply giveaways, a pop-up library hosted by Orange Public Library, and free face painting.” Come to the area next to Forever 21.
