📰 Here are the top stories in Orange County today:

  1. The Highway Patrol responded late last month to the Costa Mesa Freeway in Tustin. A 22-year-old man reportedly threw rocks at driving cars south of Edinger. “Seven victims reported damage that included cracked windshields, broken side view mirrors, and dents and scrapes.” He pleaded not guilty and will be back in court next week on Wednesday. (The Orange County Register/paywall)
  2. Did you see the brush fire near the 241 Toll Road in Orange on Wednesday? Officials reported that the flames began at the nearby Santiago Canyon Landfill. While we don’t know what started the fire, the Orange County Fire Authority was able to contain it to “less than an acre.” (Patch)
  3. Fullerton City Hall doubles down on its anti-RV camping law. When a judge put the kibosh on the ordinance, officials voted to change the city’s definition of RV. It is now in harmony with the rule’s original intent, which should allow the city council to enforce the “anti-RV camping law that critics say targets homeless people sleeping in cars.” (Voice of OC)
  4. Grocery Outlet is coming to Laguna Niguel! Expect the store to open Aug. 31 at 27871 La Paz Road. “You're going to want to check out our meat section when we open the doors,” the retailer teases. By the way, the store’s still hiring! (Grocery Outlet)
  5. The Newport Beach Police Department wants you to know that it’ll conduct a DUI checkpoint on Aug. 18. While not revealing the actual location, the police department said it would be between 8 p.m. and 1 a.m. “Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.” (Newport Beach Police Department)

  • "We are sharing these dogs at the request of our shelter partner. They are overwhelmed with purebred shepherds and turned to us to spread the word. These dogs are NOT safe with GSROC as we do not have space to rescue them. Money won't help —— the thing that all rescue groups are lacking is SPACE. Whether you are a private party or a rescue organization, can you please consider rescuing one or all of these beautiful white shepherds." (German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County via Facebook)
