PACIFIC PALISADES, CA — A man who got lost hiking was rescued by helicopter Sunday morning, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The hiker got lost near Santa Ynez Falls, prompting an LAFD response at around 10:15 a.m. Firefighters said due to the "precarious" location of the hiker, they needed to conduct a "capture" operation, in which the rescuer is lowered from a helicopter and attaches the hiker, compared to the more standard hoist operation.

The LAFD planned to transport the man, who was uninjured, to a helispot to meet ground-based firefighters, who planned to assist him in returning to his vehicle.
