2 Arrested In Mountain View Identity Theft Case: Cops

Dozens of photocopies of drivers' licenses, credit cards and blank checks, along with an unregistered gun were recovered, authorities said.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA — Two men were arrested last week in in connection with an identity theft case, Mountain View police said.

Derek Bigbey, 35, was arrested on suspicion of identity theft and check fraud, and Jeremy Edgerton was arrested on suspicion of carrying a loaded firearm and being in possession of a switchblade, police said.

Both men were booked into the Santa Clara County Jail.

A patrol officer at around 1:45 a.m. Feb. 21 contacted a man later identified at Bigbey sitting in a U-Haul truck in the Safeway parking lot on Shoreline Boulevard, police said.

The officer while speaking with Bigbey found him to be in possession of methamphetamine, an unregistered gun, copies of drivers’ licenses from more than 10 states, credit cards and checks, none of which belonged to him, police said.

A printer and a stock of blank checks were also found, according to police.

While officers were processing his arrest, Bigbey requested a friend, later identified as Edgerton, pick up the U-Haul, police said.

When Edgerton arrived at the Police Department, officers determined he had an unregistered and loaded handgun inside his car, police said.

"Great work by our officer, who recently completed his field training program and who has been riding solo on patrol for only a few weeks!" police said.
