Caltrain Fatally Hits Person On Tracks In Palo Alto

PALO ALTO, CA — A southbound train carrying more than 50 passengers struck and killed a person Tuesday in Palo Alto, according to Caltrain.

Officials said the victim was on the tracks for unknown reasons with the #114 train struck them between the California Avenue and San Antonio stations shortly before noon. Medics rushed to the scene and confirmed the person had died at the scene.

Transit Police arrived at the scene a few minutes later and began an investigation into the cause of the collision, but officials said it was too early to share more details.

"That information, as well as the identity of the individual, will be determined by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner's Office," a Caltrain spokesperson said. "Our thoughts are with the individual, our train operators, and the responding crews.

The incident briefly halted southbound trains in the area, and they were cleared to move through the area at reduced speeds shortly before 12:30 p.m.
