PALO ALTO, CA — Police are searching for suspects who attacked a man at his Palo Alto job site over the weekend, carjacked his vehicle, then set it ablaze in Oakland.

Police said the victim called 911 shortly before 6 a.m. Saturday to report an assault and carjacking on Page Mill Road. A man in his 50s told investigators he was working as a custodian and had left his vehicle idling while he emptied garbage bags into a nearby dumpster. The man told police he noticed a light brown sedan idling nearby, and a woman sitting inside.

As the victim returned to his car, he said he heard a man's voice and suffered a blow to his shoulder, causing him to fall to the ground and lose consciousness. He awoke to find both his vehicle and the brown sedan gone.

The man told police he did not see the man and did not have a detailed description of the woman or her car. Investigators believe the pair worked together to commit the assault and carjacking.

A few hours later, the Oakland Police Department located the stolen vehicle unoccupied and on fire on Embarcadero West.

Detectives in Palo Alto continue to investigate the case and said they were unaware of any similar incidents in the area.

Anyone with information that could help solve the case can contact dispatch at 650-329-2413 or leave an anonymous tip at 650-383-8984.
