PALO ALTO, CA -- Comcast has restored service to more than 30,000 customers in Palo Alto who experienced intermittent outages after a construction crew hit utility wires on Monday afternoon.

Comcast spokeswoman Joan Hammel said a third-party crew hit the wires while digging at East Charleston and Middlefield roads. In a separate outage, about 4,000 Palo Alto Utilities customers lost power due to a loose wiring connection in an underground vault.

According to the city's power outage map, 3,365 residents were without power in the Midtown neighborhood at one point, but about 75 percent of the affected customers had service restored as of 2 p.m.
