Katie Ledecky Leaves Stanford To Train In Florida

The decorated Olympic swimmer, who has been training at Stanford, said she wanted to be closer to her family after completing her degree.

STANFORD, CA — Decorated U.S. swimmer Katie Ledecky, who has been competing and training at Stanford since 2016, announced Wednesday that she was leaving Palo Alto to train for the 2024 Olympics in Florida.

Ledecky, 24, will also serve as a volunteer swim coach at the University of Florida while she trains with Anthony Nesty, the head coach.

The 10-time Olympic medalist also dominated the pool in the Pac-12. Ledecky was an eight-time NCAA champion and led the Cardinal to Pac-12 conference and NCAA team titles in both 2017 and 2018. She also broke 15 NCAA records while at Stanford.

“My years at Stanford have been nothing short of incredible,” Ledecky said in a statement. “I’m so grateful for my coach Greg Meehan, as well as my teammates, professors, friends and everyone in the larger Palo Alto/Menlo Park area who have supported me through these years.”

Ledecky turned pro in 2018, but kept training at Stanford. She graduated with a degree in psychology with a political science minor. Ledecky, who is from Bethesda, Maryland, said she wanted to be closer to her family after completing her degree this year.

Ledecky posted a photo on social media of her at the Stanford campus, and called it her “second home for the last five years.”

“It will always have a special place in my heart,” Ledecky said.
