In Memory: Harry W. 'Hunk' Anderson, 1922-2018

The spirited art lover, along with his wife and daughter, helped establish the famed Anderson Collection at Stanford University museum.

PALO ALTO, CA – Harry W. "Hunk" Anderson, a founder of the renown Anderson Collection at Stanford University, passed away Wednesday at age 95, according to museum director Jason Linetzky said.

Anderson, along with his wife, Mary Margaret "Moo" Anderson, and daughter Mary Patricia "Putter" Anderson Pence, established the Anderson Collection at Stanford University museum with a gift of 121 works of modern and contemporary American art, Linetzky said.

"The museum is eternally grateful to the Anderson family for their extraordinary gift to Stanford University and their continued passion for sharing this collection with the world,"Linetzky said Thursday in a statement. "We will greatly miss Hunk's spirited presence at the museum and in our lives."

The Anderson Collection is considered one of the most outstanding private collections of 20th-century American art in the world.
