Over 30K Tickets Sold For California Classico At Stanford Stadium

The match is returning after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic.

PALO ALTO, CA — The California Classico, the Bay Area’s biggest summer sporting event and the San Jose Earthquakes’ annual match against the LA Galaxy, is expected to be played in front of a packed house on June 25 at Stanford Stadium.

More than 30,000 tickets have been sold in the 50,000-seat stadium as of this week, according to the Earthquakes. The team usually plays its home games at PayPal Park in San Jose, the match against the rival Galaxy takes place at the larger Stanford Stadium once a year.

The team plans to donate more than 3,700 tickets to military members and their families.

No other Bay Area sporting event during the summer months draws more than 50,000 fans during the summer months, according to the Earthquakes. The match is returning after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic.

Pregame festivities include a fan zone featuring food trucks, a beer garden and 140-person drum corps. A skydiver will deliver the game ball and there will also be an Air Force flyover.
