PALO ALTO, CA — Even cats are cool enough to get a shower when there are babies to be raised.

Pets In Need will host a kitten shower and offer the community a sneak peek at the new nursery at the rescue organization’s Redwood City shelter on July 20 from 10 a.m. to noon. The cake cutting is scheduled for 10:45 a.m.

More than 100 adults and children are expected to attend the shower, which in addition to the nursery preview, will include feline-themed games, crafts, refreshments and a special cake-cutting ceremony. Guests will also have an opportunity to play with and adopt kittens as part of the shelter’s "Save Our Kittens" program. Throughout the remainder of the month, Pets In Need is offering the chance to adopt two kittens for the adoption fee of one.

Caring for abandoned kittens is time consuming and challenging work, especially during “kitten season,” a period beginning each spring and extending into summer, when shelters see an influx of kittens. As a result, many kittens don’t survive shelter life. Pets In Need’s Save Our Kittens program was created to address this problem, with the new kitten nursery putting placing kittens one step closer to happy, healthy lives.

The kitten shower is open to the public. In lieu of admission, guests are encouraged to make a donation off of the Pets In Need wish list, which can be found at www.petsinneed.org/kittenshower.
