South Bay Nonprofits Awarded Bezos Day 1 Families Fund Grants

SAN JOSE, CA — Two South Bay nonprofits received grants from the Bezos Day 1 Families Fund to help end homelessness in the Bay Area.
Asian Americans for Community Involvement ($2.5 million) and Destination: Home ($5 million) were among 32 organizations around the country to receive a portion of a total of $96.2 million in funds.
The Day 1 Families Fund, launched by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, was founded in 2018 and funds organizations and civic groups that work to provide food and shelter to young families.

The grant money will be used by Asian Americans for Community Involvement, based in San Jose, to pilot an integrated approach to provide housing services.
Destination: Home, also in San Jose, will be able to support HEADING HOME, a new campaign to end family homelessness by 2025 in Santa Clara County.

Menlo Park’s LifeMoves was also awarded $5 million grant. It plans to serve more families and increase its behavioral health and children’s educational programming.
The organizations were selected by an independent advisory board of homelessness experts with a range of experience, according to a news release.
