PALO ALTO, CA — The Stanford women’s golf team claimed the national championship on Wednesday after defeating Oregon 3-2 in Scottsdale, Arizona.

No. 1-ranked Stanford capped off a dominant season with a trophy, winning its first NCAA title since 2015. The Cardinal were led by performances by Rose Zhang, Brooke Seay and Aline Krauter.

Anne Walker, the director of the women’s golf team, said that winning the championship “feels incredible” and that it took a special group of people to win with expectations.

“It speaks to the caliber of player that they are, but it also speaks to the type of person that they are,” Walker said. “They really desired that they wanted that for each other. I think that fueled them to be able to do it more readily.”

Stanford has three team championships this season, with men’s gymnastics and women’s water polo winning earlier this year.
