Atmospheric River Brings Flash Flooding To Palos Verdes Peninsula

Residents were advised to avoid traveling for at least the next two hours due to heavy flooding on the Palos Verdes Peninsula.

PALOS VERDES, CA — With rain rates falling at an inch to an inch and a half in the Palos Verdes area, officials are warning residents to be prepared for heavy flooding on the peninsula.

Palos Verdes Drive South was closed in both directions from Palos Verdes Drive East to Hawthorne Boulevard due to flooding and mud, officials announced Thursday morning. Officials warned residents and said they should shelter in place until the heavy rain passes.

According to the National Weather Service, roadway flooding has already been reported and people were advised to avoid travel for the next two hours.

"Turn around, don t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles," the National Weather Service said.
