Bomb Squad Responds To Possible Explosive Reported In South Bay

LOMITA, CA — Bomb squads responded to a report of a suspected explosive divide in Lomita Wednesday morning.

According to the Lomita Sheriff's Station, U.S. Homeland Security and the Los Angeles Police Department are in the area of Eshelman Avenue and Lomita Boulevard near southeast Torrance. The area is closed off to traffic for an unknown amount of time while law enforcement investigates.

The LAPD bomb squad has determined which nearby homes needed to be evacuated and was contacting the residents on the scene.

"If you don’t receive a knock on your door from them, that means you aren’t subject to the evacuation," the Sheriff's station said in a statement.

No additional information was immediately available.
