'Extensive' Repairs Planned For Palos Verdes Drive South

The City of Rancho Palos Verdes said it plans to repair the area around the landslide for about two weeks, and warns of traffic.

RANCHO PALOS VERDES, CA — The City of Rancho Palos Verdes will begin “extensive” repair work on the area around the Portuguese Bend Landslide. The City said that it is working to create a smoother driving surface along several stretches of Palos Verdes Drive South.

The repairs may begin Friday and last for approximately two weeks between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. “These repairs are extensive and may have significant impacts on traffic,” the city said. Anyone traveling on Palos Verdes Drive South during those hours over the next few weeks is advised to seek an alternative route, or allow up to 10 minutes of extra time to reach their final destination. Drivers are also asked to drive slowly, yield to workers, and obey traffic control.

The City of Rancho Palos Verdes said that it spends about half a million dollars a year working to maintain a safe roadway near the landslide. The landslide area, which encompasses over two of the City’s 14 square miles, moves anywhere between hundredths of an inch and dozens of feet each year.
