Gary Wright — Of 'Dream Weaver' Fame — Dead At 80

The musician died Monday in his Palos Verdes Estates home after a long battle with Parkinson's disease and Lewy body dementia, TMZ reported.

PALOS VERDES ESTATES, CA — Musician Gary Wright — known for 1970s hits such as “Dream Weaver” and “Love is Alive” — died Monday in his Palos Verdes Estates home after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease and Lewy body dementia, according to TMZ. He was 80.

In addition to the solo work that brought him fame, Wright played on all George Harrison’s solo albums as well as on Ringo Starr’s earlier singles and with the celebrity drummer’s All-Starr Band, Variety reported.

“Gary's vibrant personality and exceptional talent made every moment together truly enjoyable,” singer-songwriter Stephen Bishop said in a social media post. “His legacy will live on for many years to come. I will always cherish the warmth and kindness shown to me by Gary and his wife Rose, and I will forever hold dear the stories he shared with me about days gone by.”

Wright was a child actor from New Jersey and appeared on Broadway before later going to Berlin to study to become a doctor and eventually founding U.K. band Spooky Tooth, according to Variety.

He also produced 12 albums and helped pioneer the synthesizer in mainstream pop music, TMZ reported.
