Light + Space And More Concerts Near Palos Verdes This Week

Ariana and the Rose is hosting an emmersive, interactive live music party this week. Patch caught up with her to talk about the unique show.

PALOS VERDES, CA – There are a ton of great shows to catch this week in Los Angeles County, and we've gathered a list of live music from twenty of the county's top music venues for this week's round-up. From blues, to throwbacks, to indie rock, and electronic, there's something for everyone to see.

This week, Patch caught up with Ariana DiLorenzo, lead singer of pop band Ariana and the Rose, who created an immersive and interactive music dance party called "Light + Space." The show was originally conceived at an underground party in London before its sold-out New York debut. Now, it's finally coming to Los Angeles this week.

Light + Space will be at Catch One on Thursday, Nov. 8. Doors open at 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased here.

Emily Holland: How would you describe your music to someone that’s never heard it?

Ariana DiLorenzo: I describe it as synth music that makes you wanna dance and cry and then feel amazing.

EH: Who are your biggest musical inspirations/influences? Any artists that have helped shape your style/sound?

AD: I’m a huge Robyn fan. She really created a place for female artists to make music that is vulnerable and a banger at the same time. The duality of her music has always been something I strive for in my own music. I also love Goldfrapp and M83, I love artists who use electronic elements and synths as a soundscape but don’t use that to compensate for melodies. Nothing beats an amazing melody, the song itself always comes first.

EH: The “Light + Space” event seems like a physical embodiment of your music – ethereal, light and airy, kinda spacey. How’d you come up with the idea?

AD: Thank you! I had been touring a lot and was seeing different kinds of experiential shows in my off time and one day something just clicked. I thought “I need to create something like this for music.” There are so many performance companies in theater, dance and the avant-garde space breaking the format and playing with peoples’ expectations of what a “show” should look and feel like. The galactic space vibes really grew out of my own project, I think there is something so optimistic and mysterious about space and the universe. It’s the perfect setting to ask people to lose themselves in. Light + Space combines all of those elements into one event; performance art, theater, a concert and a futuristic disco.

EH: Can you describe what attending Light + Space is like?

AD: The concept of Light + Space is that glitter aliens have come down from their planet to throw an amazing cosmic rave. The evening is woven together with DJ sets, musical performances and spontaneous bursts of theater that happen throughout the night. Audience members can be anywhere in the room and run into galactic characters in the form of dancers and performers and the whole evening culminates in a concert, turning the space into a full on disco. Light + Space is like one of those amazing nights that you stumble upon, when you didn’t mean to end up dancing somewhere late at night with people you’ve just met but the night took you there and it’s now 2am and you can’t remember having this much fun in the longest time.

EH: How does the event promote inclusivity?

AD: I want to create a space that feels safe for people to let their guards down. Our whole event is designed to be a welcome party to anyone who wants to join in. We don’t do VIP tickets, we don’t place any importance on how you look to get in, I want Light + Space to feel like somewhere people can feel themselves. We encourage people to dress up, to help them shed their every day skin and get lost in the show. We partner with performers who identify in many different communities and will continue to create a space where everyone feels welcome.

EH: What music are you listening to right now?

AD: Well, obviously the new Robyn album! I’m also really into Billie Eillish, she has so much attitude and knows exactly who she is. I’ll be breaking out the Christmas albums pretty soon too!

Ariana and the Rose's Light + Space is at Catch One this Thursday, Nov. 8. Doors open at 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased here.
