Palos Verdes Flood Watch: Where To Find Sandbags

PALOS VERDES, CA — Palos Verdes is going to be hit by an atmospheric river-driven storm system over Easter weekend, which is expected to bring more flooding and a chance of mudslides according to the National Weather Service.

Total rainfall is expected to be 1.5 to 2.5 inches for most of the coast, with more than three inches forecasted across foothill areas with an increased risk of mud and rockslides. Rain is expected to fall at a rate of up to half an inch per hour, according to the National Weather Service.

"This could be an efficient rain producer, as (models) show an atmospheric river pointing straight into Southern California Saturday into Sunday," the NWS said in a statement.

Forecasters predict the storm could start late Friday night and last into Sunday and warned that extensive roadway flooding is highly likely.

City officials said those living in low-lying areas should prepare accordingly due to the area being prone to flooding. Palos Verdes residents were encouraged to prepare sandbags.

Sandbags are available to Palos Verdes residents at the following locations:

• Palos Verdes Estates Police Department
• Palos Verdes Estates Fire Station 2
• Rancho Palos Verdes City Hall
• Rancho Palos Verdes Fire Station 53
• Rolling Hills Fire Station 56
• Rolling Hills Estates Fire Station 106
• Ernie Howlett Park - Maintenance Facility

Residents are required to bring their IDs and can pick up a maximum of 10 bags. Those collecting sand were also urged to bring their own shovel or tools. Collecting sand from the beach is illegal.

Assistance is available at the Lifeguard Station for residents who need help filling their sandbags.
