South Bay Man Arrested In String Of Burglaries

A 35-year-old man is suspected of burglarizing several businesses in the Belmont Shore area.

LONG BEACH, CA — A 35-year-old man suspected of a series of commercial burglaries in Long Beach was taken into custody, police said Thursday.

According to the Long Beach Police Department, Kevin Scott Plunkett of San Pedro was located Wednesday in the 2500 block of South Leland Street. He was booked on six counts of burglary, and his bail was pending magistrate review.

Police said officers patrolling Second Street in Long Beach around 4:45 a.m. Tuesday noticed an open door at a business, which they investigated and observed damage. Detectives believe the suspect broke into the business through the door and stole several miscellaneous items, police said.

Plunkett is also suspected in burglaries that occurred in the 4700, 4800, 5200 and 5300 blocks of East Second Street.

"Following these incidents, we increased our patrols in the Belmont Shore area," according to an LBPD statement. "The East Division commander, officer, and the Neighborhood Safety Bike Team walked in the area to engage with businesses and provide safety tips."
