'What Makes Her Special Is Her Heart': Palos Verdes Star Student

We all know students who excel in academic, fine arts or volunteer service. Here's one Palos Verdes resident who is having an impact.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

PALOS VERDES, CA — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Madeline Hall who nominated Madeleine, 12th grade of Palos Verdes. Hall is Madeleine's neighbor and said she is very grateful for the help the has given over the years.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

Madeleine has been working for me for the past few years, dog-sitting, while I'm away. I've gotten to know her over the last few years, and I'm quite impressed with this young lady!

While attending her high school classes, she's also held down various jobs, volunteered at a local assisted living facility (weekly), AND taken classes concurrently at a junior college. She balances her life oh so well!

Upon graduating from high school next month, she will also have earned three associate's degrees from Saddleback College (AA General Studies: Arts and Humanities, AS American Sign Language, AA Liberal Studies). She is the valedictorian of her high school graduating class, ranking 3rd in her class.

She is a California State Seal of Biliteracy recipient, a member of the National Honor Society, a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success, a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, and has been on the Dean's List every semester she has attended Saddleback College.

She will be attending Boise State University in the fall, with many scholarships offered already! She balances her school, work, friends, family, and church life very well!

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?

Even though she's a smarty-pants, what makes her most special is her heart! She has a heart for God - which touches everyone she meets!

Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future,Madeleine, 12th grade!
