Woman Sets Fire To Rancho Palos Verdes Hillside Police Say

RANCHO PALOS VERDES, CA — A woman was arrested on suspicion of arson after multiple residents reported that she was attempting to light a Rancho Palos Verdes hillside on fire.

After receiving a dozen phone calls, the Lomita Sheriff's Station responded to the cliff face just south of La Rotunda Drive.

"Deputies scaled down a treacherous collapsed trail with fire extinguishers in tow," deputies said in a statement. "When they reached the coastline, they took the arson suspect into custody and started battling the fire."

Firefighters and deputies used shovels and buckets of seawater to extinguish the fire.

Due to dangerous conditions on the hillside, deputies were unable to escort the suspect up the hillside so she was airlifted from the scene.

Deputies waiting at the top of the cliff took the woman into custody and booked her at Lomita Station on suspicion of arson.
