Black Friday Car Shopping? Buy Elsewhere, Pasadena: Study

The Autolist study analyzed hundreds of thousands of California vehicles within their database to determine the most affordable cities.

PASADENA, CA – Black Friday is one of the biggest shopping days of the year – everyone's out searching for the best deals they can find on electronics, toys, and kitchen appliances. But what about shopping for used cars? According to a study from Autolist.com, California is the 21st most affordable state in the country to buy a used car, but Pasadena isn't one of the most affordable cities in The Golden State.

The study analyzed hundreds of thousands of California vehicles within the Autolist database to determine the rankings. Here are the top ten most affordable cities in California going into Black Friday:

  1. Aliso Viejo – $1,257 below the California average
  2. Lake Forest – $1,028 below the California average
  3. Daly City – $976 below the California average
  4. Mission Viejo – $938 below the California average
  5. San Clemente – $924 below the California average
  6. San Francisco – $916 below the California average
  7. Inglewood – $915 below the California average
  8. Redondo Beach – $907 below the California average
  9. Santa Monica – $889 below the California average
  10. San Bruno – $885 below the California average

The study analyzed over 83 million vehicles and 4.8 billion unique data points across vehicles nationwide. Autolist found that Pasadena was the 33rd most affordable city in California to buy a new car, with average savings of $565. So if you're planning on buying a used car this Black Friday, you may want to shop around elsewhere.

In addition, the study also found the most affordable vehicles statewide averaged $1,745 to $1,199 savings compared to the national average. Vehicles with the biggest savings in California are:

  1. Jaguar XJ
  2. Infiniti QX80
  3. Infiniti Q40
  4. Ford Expedition EL
  5. Ford Excursion
