PASADENA, CA — Pasadena police Monday announced the arrests of two people, including a 16-year-old boy, in connection with a shooting that left one man dead and critically injured another man.

Cecilio Hernandez, 24, of Pasadena, is set to be arraigned Jan. 10 in a Pasadena courtroom on one count of murder involving the fatal shooting of Jamal Patterson in the 1000 block of Summit Avenue on Oct. 25, along with one count each of attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Patterson, 24, died at the hospital three days later from a gunshot wound to the head, according to records from the coroner's office.

The criminal complaint includes allegations that Hernandez personally used a handgun in the commission of the attack and that he has a 2016 conviction for attempting to prevent or dissuade a witness from attending or giving testimony at a court hearing.

Police said a 16-year-old boy from Pasadena has also been charged as a juvenile with one count each of murder and attempted murder. Details about his case were not immediately available, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.

A third person, Angel Martinez, 40, of Phelan, is charged with six counts of possession of a firearm by a felon and one count of unlawful possession of ammunition. The criminal complaint alleges that Martinez had prior convictions for assault with a firearm in 2006 and criminal threats in 2001.

In a statement announcing the arrests, police said an extensive investigation led to "the identification of multiple suspects connected to a local criminal street gang."

The three were taken into custody last week as the Pasadena Police Department's Robbery/Homicide Unit executed a search warrant at multiple residences in Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties, with authorities recovering three rifles, five handguns, body armor, ammunition and "other items of evidentiary value," according to police.
