FRIDAY THE 13th A Day of Dred to Stay in Bed?

Do you suffer from paraskevidekatriaphobia: a fear of Friday the 13th? Well you are among the multitude of people that believe this is a day of bad luck and it’s the most feared day and date in history! Superstition is empowered by belief, but if enough people believe it all at the same time, imagine how exponential that power of belief has grown. I hear it started back on the last supper which fell on the 13th day and 13 disciples were in attendance.

However, its fearful impact is measurable as tens of millions of people live in fear and dred of this numbered date, and US commerce has also lost hundreds of millions of dollars for the same. People are reticent to leave their beds let alone their homes.

Also according to Otis Elevators 85% of buildings don’t have a 13th floor. Needless to say this ill-omened day has had an impact on societal emotions, business dollars, how we conduct ourselves and how building floors are numbered. Also, making and naming a horror movie doesn’t help and it perpetuates the fear.

On a positive note, however rates of accidents drop off on this day as people are more apt to be cautionary.
So whether you believe and have paraskevidekatriaphobia: a fear of Friday the 13th or not, today is a great time to be more careful. If we need a specific date/day to remind us, then let’s redefine the negative of today with encouraging practices that bring good luck. Let’s rename it Friday Be Careful the 13th day. A day we celebrate being cautious and living informed and not nauseous and in fear. Have a safe day!
