Creek Fire 35% Contained: Cal Fire

SUNOL, CA — The 744-acre Creek Fire is 35% contained as of 9 a.m. Monday, according to Cal Fire. Crews were able to stop forward progress by Saturday evening, and continue to make “good progress” as of Monday, but evacuation orders still remain in place in the area around the Sunol Regional Wilderness Park.

The fire broke out around 4 p.m. Friday in the hills east of Fremont and Milpitas near Welch Creek and Calaveras roads in Sunol. By 6:40 p.m.,it had already spread to 595 acres.

An evacuation order was issued for zone ALC-E127 in Alameda County, which includes the area north of Geary Road, south of Welch Creek Road, east of Welch - Flag Hill Trail and Calaveras Road, and west of Bluff and Welch Creek Roads.

The Sunol Wilderness Regional Preserve is also closed "until further notice," East Bay Regional Parks announced.

No injuries have been reported as of Monday.

The fire is one of several aggressive fires that have broken out in Northern California in the past few days. The 471-acre Point Fire in Concord and Bay Point was 92% contained as of Monday, and evacuations were downgraded. In Altamont, the 389-acre Flynn Fire reached 100% containment by Sunday evening. The largest fire by far is the 360,141-acre Park Fire outside Chico, which is just 12% contained as of Monday. It is the sixth largest blaze in California history.
