PLEASANTON, CA — Without community leaders, Pleasanton wouldn’t hum along nearly as smoothly as it does. We’d miss their contributions in big and small ways. Patch has partnered with T-Mobile to recognize these often unsung community leaders and celebrate their contributions. This submission comes from Kelly Cousins, a Pleasanton reader who nominated Valerie Arkin.

She is on the Pleasanton City Council and has been on the Pleasanton Unified School District Board of Trustees.

What does this community leader do?

She has demonstrated her leadership on several boards, commissions and as a public servant under her title of School Board President and Vice Mayor on the Pleasanton City Council.

Why do you believe the community leader should be recognized or honored?

She has worked tirelessly over 20 years as an important member of the community and as a public servant within her various leadership roles.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the community hero?

Valerie has demonstrated over many years that she listens respectfully to community input as well as District and City of Pleasanton staff’s input, and makes good decisions on the behalf of student learning and growth and the running of the city government. She has brought civility and reason when voting as a member these two important positions in our community.
