$1 Rent? Storefronts Available For Pennies In This SoCal City

ONTARIO, CA — A SoCal city is offering small businesses retail space for a mere $1 per month.

The Downtown Ontario Retail Pop-Up Program is designed to help entrepreneurs expand without startup costs by providing businesses with short-term city-owned commercial space in the area of Euclid Avenue and B Street.

Tenants must pay a refundable deposit of $1 per square foot and will receive up to six months in the space, complete with free utilities and wifi.

The program was created to support businesses with plans to grow into a brick-and-mortar store within two years and is open to specialty retailers such as cheese shops, soapmakers and jewelers.

Applicants accepted in the program must meet certain measures related to sales, hours and social media impressions.

The program began in the fall and two current tenants — maker marketplace the Craft Collective and vintage sneaker business Street Culture Boutique — have both signed on to stay another six months, according to the Daily Bulletin.
