LOS ANGELES, LA- - Exactly 262,297 passengers were expected to land or take off from Los Angeles International Airport Sunday, and 102,487 vehicles were expected to come, park or go from LAX as it handles one of the busiest periods of the year.

Airport officials forecasted a record-breaking July 4 travel period for the facility, with 2.86 million passengers expected over the 11-day period that began last Friday and will end one week from Monday.

In fact, Monday, July 9 is expected to be the second-heaviest travel day of the holiday, with 272,358 passengers and 113,779 vehicles expected, about 5 percent more than Sunday.

Last Friday was the heaviest day: 275,285 booked passengers and 120,531 vehicles.

The core of the holiday period is expected to show a 2.44 percent increase over the seven days that started June 29 and ends on Thursday, the fifth.

With July 4 falling on a Wednesday this year, the three busiest days are expected to be the Friday, Sunday and Monday after the holiday.

Over the 11 days straddling the Fourth of July and the weekends on either side, some 2.86 million passengers expected over an 11-day period between last Friday and a week from Monday.
