Ocean Bacteria Levels Unsafe For Swimming In Redondo Beach

County health officials cautioned Redondo Beach residents from being in the ocean, as bacteria levels exceeded state safety standards.

REDONDO BEACH, CA — County health officials cautioned Redondo Beach residents from being in the ocean, as bacteria levels exceeded state safety standards.

The Los Angeles County Public Health Department collects samples weekly from various sites year-round to test and monitor bacteria levels. On Tuesday, the division found the ocean water at the Redondo Beach Pier exceeded state standards for bacterial levels.

Residents were urged to avoid the ocean 100 yards up and down the coast from the pier.

Beaches in the county at the Santa Monica Pier, Will Rogers State Beach, Malibu Lagoon, Manhattan Beach, Dockweiler State Beach, Marina del Rey and Inner Cabrillo Beach also didn’t meet state standards.

The Department of Public Health discourages swimming in the water at the beach because it may cause illness.

The public may see warning signs displayed at the beach. To view a list of the locations visit the Public Health Department’s website. The list will be updated when conditions change and the water is found to be safe to swim, surf and play in again.
