REDONDO BEACH, CA — A brand new month has started, making way for May's warmer weather and many more beach days in the South Bay.

The week ahead is a busy one for South Bay residents, here are five things to look out for:

  1. The 2023 BeachLife festival kicks off on Friday, May 5 in Redondo Beach and will play through the weekend. Gwen Stefani, The Black Keys and The Black Crowes will headline this year. The annual festival features music, art and culinary experiences inspired by Southern California's beach culture on the sand of Redondo Beach. This years full line up includes almost 50 artists who perform a variety of different genres. Tickets are still on sale for those interested and start at $159.
  2. Manhattan Beach residents should avoid Vista Del Mar at 45th Street starting May 2 due to a full road closure for an Edison Project. The closure starts at 6 p.m. on Tuesday and ends at 6 a.m. on Wednesday.
  3. SOAR - Tropical Butterflies at the South Coast Botanic Garden is back for the third year starting Monday through the end of August. For the first time this year, guests will be able to feed butterflies from a flower vial or ring filled with nectar inside the pavilion for an additional $6. Tickets are $6 for members and are up to $23 for non-members. More information is available at the Botanic Garden's website.
  4. Also on the Palos Verdes Peninsula this week, hikers can gather at the George F Canyon Nature Preserve at 10:30 a.m. on May 6 for this month's first Saturday Guided Nature Walk hosted by the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy. This nature walk should be a special one as the peninsula is abloom with native flowers due to recent storms. For more information and to make reservations, visit PVPLC's website.
  5. For those who like to support local farmers and enjoy fresh produce, this week's farmer's markets will happen on Tuesday in Manhattan Beach, Thursday in Redondo Beach and Sunday in Rolling Hills Estates.
