REDONDO BEACH, CA — BeachLife Festival this week released updated guidelines as coronavirus cases rise again amid the delta variant surge, festival organizers told Patch.

Attendees and staff will be required to show either proof of vaccination or proof of a negative PCR test, festival organizers said.

It's unclear yet if people will be required to wear face masks. As of now, masks are not required but are highly recommended. Organizers said they are still figuring out if the festival will fall under the mega-event category since the festival could be just under 10,000 tickets sold.

A new health order was issued by Los Angeles County Tuesday and now, everyone planning to attend outdoor events with large crowds must, once again, don face coverings. The order governs so-called "mega-events" with gatherings of more than 10,000 people such as MLB, NFL games and arena concerts, and it will take effect later this week.

The county's newest mask mandate comes as the region struggles to contain the highly contagious Delta variant of the coronavirus, which is more than twice as contagious as the original variant. It's the latest setback in the face of a variant that has thwarted the nation's recovery and changed our understanding of the disease.

The new order, which will become effective at 11:59 p.m. Thursday, will require mask-wearing in such outdoor settings except when people are "actively eating or drinking." The order will apply to everyone, regardless of COVID-19 vaccination status.

BeachLife Festival will be held Sept. 10 to 12 at 137 N. Harbor Dr., Redondo Beach. The event includes performances from Stephen and Ziggy Marley, Jane's Addiction, Cage the Elephant, Counting Crows, Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals, Gary Clark Jr., Portugal. The Man, Thievery Corporation, The Wallflowers, Zella Day and Silversun Pickups.

The event is an ode to SoCal beach life and includes cashless transactions this year due to the pandemic. It also has a special chef side stage, plus tons of other experiences and retailers.
