Bed Bath & Beyond To Close South Bay Store

Bed Bath & Beyond is closing 9 more California stores, bringing the total number of closures in the state to 21.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Bed Bath & Beyond is closing nine more stores in California, including one in the South Bay as the struggling retailer fights for survival. Altogether, six stores in Los Angeles County are now slated for closure.

The retail chain announced the closure of another 150 stores nationwide Wednesday in an attempt to avoid bankruptcy. In Los Angeles County, stores in Culver City, Downey, Glendora, Hawthorne, Pasadena and Los Angeles are slated for closure.

The news comes after the retail giant already closed 12 stores across California at the end of January. The chain called the spate of closures part of its "fleet optimization program."

"Plans for current store fleet optimization program to be expanded to more than 400, including the closure of an approximately 150 additional lower-producing Bed Bath & Beyond stores, which builds on the closure of approximately 200 Bed Bath & Beyond stores," the company stated in a regulatory document filed on Monday.
