Chargers Put 'Non-Exclusive' Franchise Tag on Linebacker Melvin Ingram

Ingram is free to negotiate with other teams, but the Chargers will receive two first-round draft choices from the team signing him.

CARSON, CA -- The Los Angeles Chargers announced Monday they have placed the "non-exclusive" franchise tag on outside linebacker Melvin Ingram.

Ingram is free to negotiate with other teams. If he receives a contract offer, the Chargers will have the right to match that offer. If the Chargers choose not to match that offer, they would receive two first-round draft choices from the team signing him.

The 6-foot-2-inch 247-pound Ingram made eight sacks in the 2016 season, second on the team. He was chosen by the Chargers in the first round of the 2012 draft out of South Carolina and has played his entire NFL career with the team.
